What do you need when staying at a hostel?

More and more people are choosing to stay in hostels, rather than hotels or villas, when going on holiday. Hostel usually offer a more comfortable stay than camping but at a lower cost than that of staying in more luxurious accommodation. However, many people are still unsure of what they need to take when then when planning to stay in a hostel.

Often, travellers choose to take their own sheets with them when staying in a hotel. Whilst most hostels will provide bedding, and some may rent sheets, it can be advisable to take your own to ensure that you have a comfortable stay. If you plan on travelling for an extended period of time, you should be able to find services which will allow you to wash and dry your sheets for a relatively low cost.

Some hostels are more basic than others. Although you are unlikely to spend a huge amount at the hostel itself, it can be a good idea to make sure you have various means of entertainment for the time which you are there. If you know the hostel which you are staying at offers access to a WiFi internet connection, then take your laptop and charger so that you can play online games like Party Poker, or upload photos from your trip to share with family and friends. Alternatively, you may simply want to take a pack of playing cards, or a good book.

You will also want to make sure you have a number of basic items with you. Take a set of locks, which can be used on both storage lockers by the hostel, as well as your suitcase. It can also be a good idea to take a separate alarm clock, in case you are unable to find a power point to charge your phone during your stay.
